Can you drop off a mattress for free in Odessa?

City of Odessa residents can drop off mattresses and couches for free at the city drop-off, KOSA reported in December 2025. If you live outside city limits, such as in West Odessa, call 432-335-4686 to ask what applies to you before you make the trip. Hours and rules can change.

In a roll-off, a mattress costs $50 because it needs extra handling at disposal. If the mattress is the only big item, the free drop-off wins. If it rides along with a full home cleanout dumpster, the $50 may beat a separate trip.

Does the city still hold neighborhood bulk drop-off days?

The City of Odessa held monthly neighborhood bulk drop-off events in 2025, at sites such as Parks Bell Ranch and Buice Elementary. Those events took furniture, appliances, outdoor equipment and electronics. We could not confirm a 2026 schedule, so ask the city or the Keep Odessa Beautiful facility before you plan around one.

Don't fill the alley dumpster instead. The city has asked residents to keep wood, concrete and other heavy debris out of city dumpsters. KOSA reported in April 2025 that alley bins were filling with commercial waste, tires and furniture.

Where do old tires go?

Automotive tires go in a Stout Bros dumpster for $50 each. We could not confirm whether the Keep Odessa Beautiful facility takes tires, so call 432-335-4686 before you haul them there. When you buy new tires, ask the shop whether it will take the old ones off your hands.

Where does leftover paint go?

Wet or liquid paint can never go in our dumpsters, in any amount. Take paint, stains, thinners and other chemicals to the household hazardous waste side of the Keep Odessa Beautiful facility at 814 W. 42nd St. Call first to confirm what they accept. Keep cans sealed and upright in the car.

Can batteries go in a dumpster?

Batteries are banned from every Stout Bros dumpster. Lead-acid batteries, the kind in cars, trucks and mowers, can't go to a Texas landfill. Take them to a battery recycler or an auto parts store that takes them back, or ask the Keep Odessa Beautiful facility about household batteries.

The full list of allowed, $50 and banned items is in what you can put in a dumpster. Every other charge is on the dumpster rental cost page. Planning a big job in town? See roll-off dumpster rental in Odessa.

Odessa drop-off questions

Can I put a couch in the dumpster instead of hauling it to the city?

A couch goes in a Stout Bros roll-off with no item fee, because furniture is billed only by weight. Break it down or stand it on end to save room. City of Odessa residents can also drop couches off free at the city facility, KOSA reported in December 2025, so one couch alone may not need a dumpster.

What time does the Keep Odessa Beautiful facility close on Saturday?

The facility closes at noon on Saturday, after opening at 8 AM. On weekdays it runs 8 AM to 5 PM but closes from noon to 1 PM. It is closed on Sunday. Hours can change, so call 432-335-4686 or check the city's page before you drive over with a load.

Can I toss a small dead battery in with the rest of the junk?

Batteries are banned from our dumpsters, whatever the size. A car, truck or mower battery is lead-acid, and lead-acid batteries can't go to a Texas landfill. Some small batteries can also spark a fire inside a load. Set them aside and ask the Keep Odessa Beautiful facility or a battery recycler where they go.

Is it cheaper to pay $50 per mattress or haul it myself?

For one mattress, the free city drop-off costs you only the trip, if you live inside Odessa city limits. For a cleanout with a mattress, a couch and a pile of junk, one roll-off holds it all: the couch has no item fee and the mattress adds $50. Count the trips you would save before you decide.
